Will is in the supermarket with Boosty helping with the shopping, but he has lost his Mum. Will thinks about the places she usually/sometimes/hardly ever/never goes. At the same time Will’s Mum is looking for Will. She thinks about the places that he usually/sometimes/hardly ever/never goes.
Can Will and Boosty find his Mum? Has Will put the right items in his trolley? Where do you always/sometimes/never go?

Steps for Students

  1. Listen to the teacher and look at the pictures ACTIVITY 1
  2. Are the sentences true or false?
  3. If a sentence is false, what is the correct answer?

Students can answer the questions by:

  • saying ‘TRUE’ or ‘FALSE’
  • standing up if it’s TRUE and sit down if it’s FALSE
  • moving left if it’s TRUE and right if it’s FALSE

Aim of Activity

Target language reinforcement.

Steps for Students

  1. Click on the link: ACTIVITY 2
  2. ‘Deal’ the cards
  3. Ask someone in your group/class the question ‘Where is she?’
  4. Is the answer correct?
  5. Ask him/her to ‘Shuffle’ the cards and ask the next question.

Face to face class:

  • Tablets can be provided to small groups of 4-6 students
  • or teacher can display the activity on the Interactive Board

Online lesson:

  • The teacher can share her/his screen with the link to the activity or students can play together in breakout rooms.

  1. Open the link and deal (or shuffle) the cards.
  2. Ask the students ‘Where is she?’
  3. Elicit the correct answer.
  4. If students need more practice they can play in small groups with each other.

 

TIP! 

  • Listen for correct pronunciation of target language.

  • Are they making full sentences. (She is in/at the……….)

Steps for Students

  1. Explain to the students that a new Teacher Mr Boo is going to give them a pronunciation class.
  2. They must listen to the sounds and repeat them (loudly/quietly/slowly/quickly)
  3. Can they repeat everything they hear?
  4. Can they answer Mr Boo’s questions?

 

TIP!

As extra follow up task encourage the students to make sentences or drawings with the key words.

To connect topic to real life experience and teach vocabulary via a game format.

Steps for Students

  1. Go to www.kahoot.it
  2. Enter the pin number.
  3. Enter your name.
  4. Play the Quiz.
  5. Select the correct answer.
  6. Who is the winner?

 

Face-to-face class:

  • You’ll need a projector/Interactive Board to do the task as a whole class activity
  • or tablets for groups of learners to do the task in groups

Online lesson:

  • You’ll need a computer to share the task online

 

  1. Click the link: ACTIVITY 4
  2. You will need 2 devices (students will need tablets/mobile phones or computers).
  3. Play as a ‘Guest’.
  4. Ask the students to use their first names as it can be difficult to know who the winner is if they use nicknames.
  5. Students enter the game from the second device by going to the Kahoot website and entering the code www.kahoot.it
  6. Class can play as Teams if you have 4 tablets or mobile phones.
  7. Whole class can also play together as a Team/one player.
  8. Follow up activity – place flashcards around the classroom (from Activity 1) and ask student to direct each other to the places where Will and his Mother are.

Steps for Students

  1. Find your area on Google Maps
  2. Say where all the places Will and his Mum visited are in your area.
    • There is a supermarket next to the bank’
    • ‘There is a Library across from the School’
  1. Draw a map of your area and present to your group.
  2. Ask other students questions about their maps.
    • ‘Where is the supermarket?’

Face-to-face class:

  • You’ll need an Interactive Board/Projector or tablets for groups.
  • Prepare paper and coloured pens.

Online class:

  • share google maps online and make own maps for Homework

Go to Google Maps

  1. Select your area on google maps and zoom into an area the class knows.
  2. Where is the Supermarket/Bank/ Museum/Library etc?
  3. Ask them to use google maps to create their own maps of an area they know well.
  4. Use the maps for presentations and as a visual for asking and answering questions: Where is the ………………….? It’s on the left/next to …….
