For face-to-face lesson you’ll need:
- Snakes & Ladders game PDF to assemble
- printer
- cardstock paper
- scissors
- tape
- game pieces (checkers, coins, blocks, etc.)
- dice
- Print out the pieces of the board. /For an online lesson prepare a PDF visual to share to the class on the screen
- Trim off the white edges, assemble them in the correct order (check the numbers in the squares for reference), and tape the sheets together along the seams on both sides of the board.
- The player(s) begin by placing their game pieces on the START square.
- The first player rolls the die and moves forward that number of spaces.
- On each space the player needs to say a sentence using the word written on the space in order to keep moving.
- If they don’t know in less than 15 seconds, then their turn stops, and the other player takes a turn.
- If a player rolls a number that lands them at the bottom of a ladder and they get the word correct, they may “climb” to the square at the top of the ladder.
- If a player rolls a number that lands them on the head of a snake, then they “slide” down to the square at the snake’s tail.
- The game finishes when all the players get to the FINISH square, with the first player to the end being declared the winner.
- You do not have to roll an exact number to finish the game.
TIP!
- Learners play the game in groups of 2- 4 players depending on the number of students in the class.
- It is possible to play without printing the board or online with the PDF visual displayed on the shared screen.
- Students throw the dice and move forward or back without placing their game counter.
- They just keep making notes about their current place on the board.
