Mike and his mum are on a walk. Mike is hungry and mum realizes they skipped snack, so they go to the shop. Mum offers Mike some sweet apple, banana, orange and a fruit salad. But Mike wants a chocolate bar! They unexpectedly meet Boosty. Boosty has a sandwich for his snack.
What do you think Mike will finally buy for his snack? A chocolate bar or a nice sandwich with ham and some vegetable? What do you like for snack?

Aim of Activity

Checking understanding of the video and revising vocabulary.

Steps for Students

Open the Escape game link and start the game.

  1. Listen to your teacher explain the game.
  2. Follow the slides and choose the correct answer.
  3. Write down or draw your answer.
  4. Listen to the part of the video the teacher plays to you.

You will need: small board for each student , felt tip pen, internet connection, a projector, speakers

  1. Open the Escape game link and start the game.
  2. Explain the game to your students.
  3. There are 5 questions based on the lesson video.
  4. Read the instructions and questions to your students.
  5. After each slide, let your students write down or draw their answers on a small board or a piece of paper and check the correct answer by clicking the answer link on the “good job slide” to play the video. Stops the video right after the correct answer is said.

Aim of Activity

Revising vocabulary and automation of terminology.

Steps for Students

  1. Open the Blooket.com page.
  2. Click on Join a Game.
  3. Type in the Game ID your teacher shows you on the screen.
  4. Choose your nickname and a character and wait for your teacher to start the game.
  5. Play the tutorial first if the Blooket game is new for you.

You will need:

  • a computer/tablet/mobile phone for each student
  • internet connection
  • a projector
  1. Open the Blooket game by clicking the link:  ACTIVITY 2
  2. Sign up with your email or your Google account and click the link above again – this time it will lead you to the I am hungry Blooket game.
  3. Click on host and start the “Café game mode” as a host.
  4. Set the time for 15 minutes and click on Host now. A game ID will appear on the screen.
  5. Let your students join the game using the Game ID given on the Blooket page.
  6. Students must choose a username and character.
  7. After all the students join, start the game.
  8. If the game is new for your students, play the tutorial mode first. If the game is new for you as well, try to play it before using it with your students. When you start the game, it will offer you the tutorial mode.

TIP!

The aim of the game is to collect as much money as possible by serving the customers. In order to restock the food, students must answer the questions focused on practising the vocabulary. The one who gets the largest amount of money wins.

  1. Listen to the audio recordings your teacher plays to you.
  2. Write down the word you hear in your native language.
  3. Say the word in the picture your teacher shows you.

Equipment needed: internet connection, speakers, a projector

  1. Open the Quizlet flashcard set from the link: ACTIVITY 3
  2. Click on the flashcard option in the self-study activities section.
  3. Flip the flashcard and play the sound by clicking on the audio symbol. Let the learners write down or draw the word they hear in their native language. Children only listen, they don’t see the screen.
  4. Repeat this with all the flashcards.
  5. During the next round, show the flashcard set again slide by slide and this time let your students see the picture pronounce the given word.

Connecting vocabulary to real life experience.

Steps for Students

  1. Get into pairs.
  2. Choose one of the roles– customer or shop assistant.
  3. Think of a scenario – you are hungry and you go to the shop to buy something to eat and drink.
  4. Use the phrases from the previous activity.
  5. Prepare a role-play and then present it to your classmates.

Equipment needed: a computer/tablet/mobile phone (one for a pair of students), internet connection, a projector

  1. To help your students with the preparation, open the Genially link: ACTIVITY 4 and let your students read the sentences aloud. Then, they should put the sentences in order by dragging them either to a customer or to a shop assistant. They will put together a complete conversation which will help them with their role-plays. Leave the final picture up for your students to see.
  2. Explain the activity to your students – divide them into pairs to prepare role-plays, and explain the roles to them:
    • a customer – is hungry and wants something to eat and drink
    • a shop assistant – offers some food and drinks to the customer
  3. After the preparation, let your students present their role-plays to the rest of the class and give them feedback on their sentence use.

 

TIP!

Online lesson:

  • 1st activity: you can share your screen and students will tell you the order of the sentences
  • 2nd activity: you can divide your students into separate rooms/calls and they can prepare their role-plays, when they are ready, they can return to the main room/call and show the role-play to the rest of the class

Steps for Students

Click the link: ACTIVITY 5

  1. Get into pairs.
  2. Student 1: choose a card or spin the mystery wheel, Do not share the word with your partner.
  3. Student 2: ask simple questions to guess the mystery word. After you guess right, switch roles.

Example: The mystery word is ‘apple’.

A: Is it a sweet?
B: No, it isn’t.
A: Is it a fruit?
B: Yes, it is.
A: Is it red?
B: Yes, it is.
A: Is it round?
B: Yes, it is.

Equipment needed: printed flashcard sets for each pair of students or a tablet/mobile phone for each pair of students, internet connection.

This activity is primarily focused on practising students’ pronunciation, so correct them if you hear any mistakes. Print out a flashcard set from the attachment for each pair of students or they can use a personal device to spin for a word here: ACTIVITY 5

A pair of students share one device, one student spins the wheel and keeps the word in mind. After guessing the word, they switch roles.
